A group’s true energy and force often manifests itself before actually being recognized as a group. It’s like the first day of a field trip, you’re completely impatient. That is what Mattotti from the group Valvoline said to me, and that is what seems to have happened to Canicola. In 2004, during our meetings for the first issue of the magazine we tried to compress and heat up the tension in order to do things. With issue 6, that came out last September, with the collective exhibition of drawings in Modena and the trip to Saint Petersburg, we’ve closed down our experience as a group. The magazine now is completely different, it has a new dress, diverse focal points, an enlarged view. To tell the truth, in this new life, we’re taking in Fofi’s lessons, the prince of magazines and culture in Italy always preferred theme projects to group projects. We mean an area of sensitivity more so than an area of specialization. With Canicola we would like to anchor different view points via comics, stories, possible signs.
